Trump or Hillary?

These are my words on the presidential contest so far:
In the first debate, Trump said things that I wish he hadn’t (unrehearsed) and Clinton was poised as always (very rehearsed), but I still feel:
– Trump’s presidency is going to sustain the constitution of the United States better than the other choice.
– Trump will put America first. After all, that is what the president of the United States is suppose to do. Putting America First IS his/her job.
– Trump opposes cronyism. He surrounds himself with intelligent, experienced people verses people he wants favors from or owes favors to.
– Trump will address government spending and manage U.S. tax, trade, welfare and health care systems with business expertise.
– Trump will appoint a reasonable supreme court justice.
– Trump knows that economic and political freedoms are evaporating. He also appreciates religious liberty. When one of these is lost, the other two are in jeopardy. Religious freedom is being threatened guised as intolerance or discrimination. The media and many popular platforms have these terms confused. “Religious freedom is a fundamental right of paramount importance.” (- Elder Lance B. Wickman)

I watched the first presidential debate with 40 other people at my sister’s (#3) house. Our extended family (my mom and dad, their eleven children and their families) has an “Extended Family Home Evening” once a month. The scheduled day for September’s Ext. FHE happened to fall on the 26th. Instead of canceling it, sister #7, whose turn it was to organize the Ext FHE, suggested we watch the debate together. SO, we had a potluck dinner before and she provided a sweet popcorn bar for dessert.

Many more kids ended up watching the debate, though many played ball outside, than I had expected because of my brother #2’s fun activities to liven up the debate.
For first half of the debate:
Debate Bingo Cards
For second half of the debate:
A slip of paper with words to clap on –
Trump:
Law and Order
China
Tremendous
Make America great again
Emails or Server

Hillary:
“cough”
Women
Racism/Racist
Working families

This was a great way to make the debate a fun event for the family. Beware. You may have a teaching moment or two as a result.

  2. Have your views on Trump changed since a lot of Republicans have taken away their endorsements of him?

    1. That is a good question.

Since I tell it how it is, I’ll say that:
      – Trump and Hillary continue to disappoint in specific areas.
      – Neither candidate is my top choice.
      – I am researching ALL my choices for the presidential election next month.
      – One other name is Evan McMullin, who I am looking at. Here is his website.
      – This is a complex election and it requires discernment. I’m hoping we can do that together.
      – May God bless America!

      Let’s keep up the conversation.

    1. Nathan,
Note my reply to J.D.’s similar question. THANK YOU for commenting.

Trump to the Post: “This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course—not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended.” My guess is that there are lots of inappropriate conversations like Trump’s 2005 recording in locker rooms. The Clintons aren’t moral examples either.

I understand why Governor Pence said this in Indianapolis – “As a husband and father, I was offended by the words and actions described by Donald Trump in the eleven-year-old video released yesterday. I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them. I am grateful that he has expressed remorse and apologized to the American people. We pray for his family and look forward to the opportunity he has to show what is in his heart when he goes before the nation tomorrow night.”

I am disappointed in Trump and in Hillary Clinton. IF we have another viable choice, I will consider it. I am looking for the candidate that will best defend the U.S. Constitution. What do you think?
