What is Seminary?

Seminary is a worldwide, four-year religious educational program for youth ages 14 through 18. It is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but is open to teenagers of all faiths.

Two and a half years ago (May 18, 2014), I was planning on going to graduate school. My acceptance letter was going to be in the mail any day. Duncan gave me a priesthood blessing before leaving on a 2 week hike. I am so grateful for this privilege, to have a husband worthy and willing to use the priesthood of God in our home. Amongst other things he blessed me in the up coming year, that I knew the scriptures well and was to teach others the scriptures.

To tell you the truth, I was upset with Duncan. I felt like punching him.

He knew that an MBA took 2 years. Why would he imply “one year?” Didn’t he know me at all?!

I asked him about this and he said that he said what came to his mind.

A week later, on the 27th, I was called to be a seminary teacher! I could not do this and go to school.
I cried for a day and I repented for the day after that, and accepted the call. On June 1st, 2014 I was set apart and blessed by a member of the stake presidency with wonderful blessings:

– My abilities will increase.
– I have been carefully prepared for this calling.
– I will have energy to accomplish everything else I am doing along with seminary teaching.
– I will find balance as I have with other callings/endeavors i have been involved with in the past.
– Great learning will result from this calling.
– Testimonies will grow and lives will be changed.

You, too can have a wonderful priesthood blessing. Just ask a priesthood holder, such as an LDS missionary, a home teacher, your husband (if he is LDS), or your bishop.

Since I have been teaching seminary, I have seen these blessings come to fruition. I have been extremely blessed. Most of all, I have learned how to teach by the power of the Holy Ghost, which I pray to improve upon and practice every day.

I know that Heavenly Father loves my students. He has taught me through the scriptures and blessed me so that I can help them. He is perfect, mighty and kind. I am grateful for the Atonement and Life of His Son Jesus Christ, who makes all things in my life possible. I am honored to serve Him.
